Every weapon has a story. This is ours.
Picture this: A fresh VM. A new laptop. A CI runner that needs setup. You've been here before — dozens of times.
First, you install git. Then curl. Then your editor. Then your shell plugins. Then the cloud CLIs. Then kubernetes tools. Then you realize you forgot to set up your aliases. Then you spend 30 minutes remembering your tmux config. Then you notice the prompt looks wrong. Then you remember you need that one tool that made life bearable...
Hours pass. Sometimes days. And you're still not "productive" — you're still setting up.
"I shouldn't have to fight my tools to get work done."
The terminal should feel like an extension of thought. Instead, it felt like archaeology — digging through dotfiles, hunting down packages, reconstructing a workflow from memory fragments scattered across GitHub gists and half-remembered Stack Overflow answers.
The same patterns repeated endlessly across projects, teams, and machines:
The tools existed. The knowledge existed. What was missing was orchestration — a single command that understood what a fully-armed developer workstation should look like.
Armory was born from a simple vision:
Any machine should become a command center in under 5 minutes.
Not just installing tools — configuring them. Not just copying dotfiles — understanding the system. Not just a script — a methodology.
The metaphor wrote itself:
Like walking into a medieval armory to emerge in full plate — Armory takes a civilian terminal and transforms it into a battle station, armed to the teeth with carefully selected and configured tools.
Armory ships with strong opinions (modern replacements, sensible configs) but never locks you in. Every default can be overridden, every tool can be skipped.
Run it twice, run it ten times — same result. No duplicate configs, no broken state. Managed blocks track what Armory touched.
Every feature works from command line flags AND the interactive menu. Automate everything, explore anything.
Pure Bash. No Python, no Ruby, no Node. If you have bash 4+, curl, and git — you can run Armory.
Dry-run shows exactly what will change. No magic, no surprises. Trust is earned through visibility.
Entertainment tools aren't frivolous — they make terminals delightful. cmatrix and neofetch have their place alongside kubectl and terraform.
642+ animated lore scripts transform your terminal into a canvas. Not just ASCII art — cinematic experiences with proper timing, particle effects, and phased reveals.
Every script uses cursor positioning (no screen clearing during animation), hidden cursor with cleanup traps, terminal-responsive layouts, and 5+ distinct animation phases.
"The terminal is not just a tool. It's a stage."
Armory is the foundation. The end goal is something bigger: NEXUS — a universal terminal experience that transcends individual machines.
Imagine:
Armory builds the muscle memory. NEXUS extends it everywhere.
"From civilian to Monarch. From Monarch to NEXUS. The evolution of terminal mastery."
Armory — noun: a place where arms are kept; a collection of resources.
In medieval castles, the armory was where warriors equipped themselves before battle. Swords, shields, armor — everything needed to face what lay ahead.
Your terminal is your weapon. Armory makes sure it's sharp, polished, and ready.
Welcome to the Armory. It's time to arm up.
Three paths to transform your system.
Fastest path — curl and go:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/matx104/armory/main/bootstrap.sh | bash
For customization and review:
git clone https://github.com/matx104/armory.git
cd armory
./bootstrap.sh --dry-run # Preview first
./bootstrap.sh # Execute
For automation and CI/CD:
./bootstrap.sh --yes --toolpacks=functional,devx,security
React-for-CLI command center — single binary, opt-in:
armory install --tui # downloads from GitHub Release
armory tui # launch (Ink, falls back to bash menu if missing)
armory tui

Every feature must be accessible via both command-line flags and the interactive TUI menu.
Shell markers and config checks prevent duplicate setup blocks. Safe to re-run.
SSH/UFW/fail2ban hardening requires explicit opt-in. Never silently applied.
After bootstrap, ~/.local files are self-sufficient. Source repo can be removed.
